At the end of the last millenium Olle was singing tenor in Gustaf Sjökvist Chamber Choir. The touring schedule was intense; they performed almost all of the greatest sacred pieces, including "War Requiem" by Britten,as well as the requiems by Brahms,Fauré,Nils Lindberg,Mozart and Verdi. Olle also played double bass in the Requiem by Duruflé and electric bass in the Requiem by Schnittke. During these years Olle knew that someday it was his turn to compose the mass for the dead. Finally, the chance to do so came in the year of 2019. When he composed this massive work he thought of a quote from Mahler in a letter to Sibelius: "A symphony must be like an entire world-it should contain everything". The first performance turned out well. The Swedish Radio recorded the concert and the broadcast took place in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The score is published at Gehrmans with the title "A Requiem For The Living". During the years 2005-2009 Olle was performing with the 15-piece ensemble Voces Nordicae (Vo No nowadays). He wrote his a cappella mass "Missa Nordica" for the ensemble. They performed it in many countries in Europe,as well as in Jordan and the USA. Especially the Kyrie has been a "hit" in the Swedish Radio. The whole mass is available at Gehrmans Publishing, as well as the Kyrie separately. You can listen to Kyrie and Gloria on the CD "Time Is Now" and the Sanctus and Agnus Dei on the CD "What is Life"(Footprint Records) and at Spotify.
In 2014 he composed "Mässa i dalaton" for choir, strings and organ (Gehrmans). It is based on elements of folk music from Dalarna in the heart of Sweden and has been performed way over 70 times by now.
In April 2017 a grim terror attack took place in the heart of Stockholm. A truck raced over innocent people, including a young girl. His "Mässa till tröst (Consolation Mass) got its title from this event and the first performance took place a couple of weeks after in Adolf Fredrik Church, just some hundred meters away from this awful deed. The mass is scored for mixed choir, children´s choir and a solo violin. Score available at Gehrmans Publishing. One year later, the Kyrie was performed during a memorial service broadcasted by the Swedish Television.
Also in 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation was celebrated in Boo Church near Stockholm with the first performance of "Festmusik" based on texts and a couple of melodies written by Martin Luther. The four movements is scored for mixed choir, soprano, strings, trumpet and timpani. The score is also available at Gehrmans.
On June 6, 2023 we celebrated Sweden´s 500th anniversary as a free and independent country. The piece "Frihet"(Freedom) scored for mixed choir, brass quintet, organ and percussion was performed in Strängnäs Cathedral in the presence of our King and Queen, as well as the Prime Minister.
This was some recollations from the past. Now Olle is looking forward to the first performance of Magnificat in November this year!
